Use Pterodactyl Files safely for edits, archives, uploads, permissions, and folder management.

Use Pterodactyl Files safely for edits, archives, uploads, permissions, and folder management.

Before editing

Open Console, stop the server, and wait for Offline before replacing active world, database, or configuration files. Create a backup first. Some text configuration can be safely changed while online, but the game may overwrite it during shutdown.

Use the browser file manager

Open Files to search, create directories, upload archives, create files, and manage folders. Verify the breadcrumb and exact path before moving, renaming, archiving, or deleting content.

The browser file manager exposes paths, file sizes, dates, uploads, new files, and directory actions.
  1. Navigate to the exact file and verify its path.
  2. Download a copy when making a risky change.
  3. Edit and save without changing the file extension.
  4. Start or restart the server and inspect Console for parse errors.

Edit text and configuration files

Click a supported text file to open the code editor. Confirm the breadcrumb and filename, preserve JSON, YAML, TOML, XML, or INI syntax, and save only after checking the edited lines. For logs, the editor is also useful for copying the first meaningful error into a support ticket.

The editor keeps the folder tree, active file, breadcrumb, and line numbers visible together.

Upload and extract archives

Use Upload for smaller files and compressed archives. After upload, choose Unarchive and verify the expected files are not trapped inside an extra nested directory. For large worlds, modpacks, or many files, use SFTP instead.
