DarkRP adds jobs, money and roleplay features to Garry’s Mod. Install the gamemode first, then use DarkRP Modification for your own settings and jobs.
Install the gamemode
- Add the official DarkRP Workshop item, ID 248302805, to your server’s collection. Add your chosen roleplay map and any required content too.
- In Startup, set Workshop ID to the collection ID. Set Gamemode to darkrp.
- Set Map to your roleplay map’s filename without .bsp. Use a map that supports DarkRP.
- Restart and wait for the Workshop downloads to finish. Join and check that DarkRP loads.
If you do not have a collection yet, follow our Workshop collection guide. The DarkRP project recommends Workshop or Git for the gamemode.
Add DarkRP Modification
- Download the ZIP from the official darkrpmodification GitHub repository and extract it on your computer.
- Rename the extracted addon folder to darkrpmodification. Upload it to garrysmod/addons.
- Check the layout: garrysmod/addons/darkrpmodification/lua/darkrp_config/settings.lua should exist. Avoid an extra folder inside darkrpmodification.
- Restart the server. Check Console for Lua errors before making your own changes.
Where to edit settings and jobs
Open garrysmod/addons/darkrpmodification/lua/darkrp_config/settings.lua for general settings. Use lua/darkrp_customthings/jobs.lua inside that same addon for custom jobs. Keep a copy of a working file before editing it, save your change and restart to test it.
Make changes in DarkRP Modification. Editing files in garrysmod/gamemodes/darkrp can cause your changes to be lost during an update. Start with one change at a time so a Console error is easier to trace.
