How to Install Workshop Mods on Your DayZ Server

Install DayZ Workshop mods through Startup or upload them yourself. Set the mod list, copy signing keys and check that players can join.

Read each mod’s Workshop page for dependencies and setup instructions. Some DayZ mods also need mission or loot configuration changes before their content works.

Stop the server and make a backup before installing mods that change your world or persistence.

Install mods from Workshop

  1. Open Startup on your DayZ server.
  2. For a list exported from the DayZ launcher, upload its HTML file to the server root and enter its exact filename in Modlist File. Leave that field empty if you are not using an exported list.
  3. For individual Workshop mods, add @ followed by the Workshop item ID to Additional Mods. Separate entries with semicolons, for example @123456789;@987654321;.
  4. Include the required dependencies and follow the order the mod authors recommend.
  5. Start the server and watch Console while the mods download. If downloads are unavailable or fail, contact support. Automatic Workshop access depends on the server’s installation account.

Additional Mods is for mods that clients also load. Use Server-Side Only Mods only when the author says the mod does not need to run on clients. Both lists use semicolons. Do not add a second -mod argument to the startup command.

Upload a mod manually

  1. Stop the server. Use SFTP to upload the complete mod folder into the server root, including its addons and .pbo files.
  2. Use lowercase folder and file names where the mod’s Linux instructions require them. The panel’s Additional Mods field does not support capitals, spaces or folder names starting with a number.
  3. Add the exact folder name to Additional Mods, separated from other entries with a semicolon. Use Server-Side Only Mods instead for an author-confirmed server-only mod.
  4. Copy the mod’s public .bikey files into the root keys folder. Workshop downloads copy them automatically; manual uploads need this step.
  5. Apply the author’s required configuration changes, start the server and join with matching client mods.
Use SFTP for complete mod folders. The Files page can upload individual files.

If players cannot join

Check the first relevant error in Console or the profiles logs. Look for a missing dependency, missing .bikey, wrong filename case or a different client mod version. Keep Verify Signatures at 2 and Enforce Game Version enabled. Turning off those checks does not fix an outdated or missing mod.

Manually uploaded mods need manual updates. For help transferring folders, read how to connect with SFTP.
