Pink and black textures or ERROR models usually mean an asset did not load. Check the map or addon involved and whether one player or everyone is affected.
Check the required content
Since July 2025, GMod includes most Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2 Episodic content. Their maps, music and voice files are excluded. Buying Counter-Strike: Source is not a general fix for every missing texture.
For server owners
- Get the map name and the affected player’s console error or screenshot.
- Check the map or addon’s Workshop page for required items.
- Confirm those items are in your public or unlisted collection and loaded successfully.
- Check that players also download the required content. Server installation alone does not send every Workshop asset.
- Join again after the downloads finish.
If one player is affected
Check that their GMod is up to date and its required Workshop downloads finished. If everyone sees the same missing asset, check the server addon setup first.
If another Source game is required
Follow the map’s exact requirements for an installed game or mounted content. Server content does not install a separate game on a player’s computer. Use legitimate files and the author’s instructions.
Install a downloaded content pack in your addons folder
Third-party content packs are available at Gmodcontent.com. Warning: Konnect Hosting is not associated with Gmodcontent.com and cannot guarantee the safety of files downloaded from that website.
Download only the content required by the map or addon you are trying to use. The steps below install a content pack on your own computer. Other players need their own required content too; installing it locally does not change the server’s Workshop collection.
- Close Garry’s Mod before installing the content.
- Download the required content pack as a .zip file from the link above. Extract the archive using your computer’s extraction tool or an archive utility.
- In your Steam Library, right-click Garry’s Mod and choose Manage → Browse local files to open the game installation folder.
- Open the garrysmod folder, then the addons folder. Create the addons folder if it is missing.
- Copy the extracted content pack folder into addons. The pack folder should contain its asset folders, such as materials and models, directly inside it. If the archive contains only those asset folders, create a folder such as css_content inside addons and put them there. Do not place the unopened .zip file in addons.
- Start Garry’s Mod again and load the affected map or reconnect to the server to check the textures and models.
For example, a pack named css_content would use garrysmod/addons/css_content/materials/... and garrysmod/addons/css_content/models/.... Keep the pack’s existing asset structure. Avoid an extra nested wrapper such as addons/css_content/css_content/materials, which prevents the files from being found at the expected path.
