How to Change the Map on Your GMod Server

Install a GMod map and use its filename in Startup or changelevel. Check Workshop maps, map names and missing content before inviting players.

Use the map filename, such as gm_construct, without .bsp. The Workshop title may be different.

Install the map

  1. Check the map’s required content and supported gamemodes.
  2. For Workshop maps, add the map and required items to your server’s collection.
  3. For a manual map, upload its .bsp file to garrysmod/maps and follow the author’s content instructions.
  4. Keep the previous working map name in case you need to switch back.
Use Upload to add a manual .bsp file to garrysmod/maps.

Set the startup map

In Startup, set Map to the filename without .bsp, then restart. If the field is locked, contact Konnect support.

Change the current map

Let players know, then enter changelevel MAP_NAME in Console. This changes the running map. Set Startup’s Map separately to keep it after a restart.

Check it loaded

Check Console for missing map or addon errors, then join. If it fails, return to the working map and check the new map’s requirements.

See the Workshop collection guide and player content downloads. Browse GMod hosting plans.
