A wipe resets saved progress. A restart does not. Decide what to reset before removing files.
Choose the wipe type
A map wipe resets the world and progress stored in it. A blueprint wipe also resets learned crafting progression. Check current Facepunch release notes for forced wipes; an update can change what is preserved.
Back up the current server
- Tell players the wipe time and time zone, and whether blueprints will reset.
- Stop the server normally and wait until it is offline.
- Create a backup of the active server identity, configuration and plugin data. Wait for completion.
- Download a copy if you need to keep it beyond the panel’s limits. Back up external plugin databases separately.
- Record the identity, map seed, world size, framework and Startup settings.
Check the wipe settings
Do not delete the whole identity folder or change server.identity as a shortcut. That can also remove settings and admins. Rust save layouts vary by version. If you cannot identify the current save or blueprint files, ask support before deleting them.
The Autowipe egg’s Regen Server and Files to remove settings run during reinstall. They are not a timed wipe button. Check the removal list before using them.
After the wipe
Once the planned wipe is complete, start the server and join. Check the new world, blueprint progress, admins and plugins before inviting players back. Older saves may not load on a newer Rust build.
