How to Change Your Valheim Server Name and Password

Rename your Valheim server, set a new join password or hide it from the public browser without changing your world.

Use Startup to rename your Valheim server or change its join password. The server name shown in the browser is separate from World Name, which selects the saved world.

Change the name and password

  1. Open your Valheim server in the Konnect game panel and select Startup.
  2. Set Server Name to the name players should see in the game browser.
  3. Set Server Password to the new password. Use 5 to 20 characters, and follow any limits displayed under the field.
  4. Leave World Name unchanged so the server keeps loading the same world.
  5. Restart the server, then test joining with the new password.

Hide the public listing

Set Public Server to 0 to hide the server from the browser, or 1 to list it. Restart after changing the value. Hiding the listing does not replace the join password.

Friends can still use the assigned public address. With crossplay enabled, they can use a current join code too. See how to enable Valheim crossplay.

If the wrong world loads

Check World Name in Startup. Changing that field can select a different save or create a new world when no matching save exists. Put back the original world name instead of deleting files.
