How to Change Your DayZ Server Name and Password

Rename your DayZ server or make it private through Startup, with separate passwords for joining and administration.

Use Startup to change the DayZ name shown in the server browser and set a password for players joining your server.

Update the name or join password

  1. Open your DayZ server in the Konnect game panel and select Startup.
  2. Set Server Name to the name you want players to see.
  3. Set Server Password for private access, or leave it empty for a public server.
  4. Restart the server. Check its name in the game browser and test joining with the password.

Choose the right password

Server Password is for joining. Admin Password is for logging in as an in-game admin. RCON Password is for external management tools. Keep the admin and RCON passwords separate from the one you share with players.

If a setting keeps changing back

Open Files > serverDZ.cfg for DayZ settings. Its entries are hostname for the name, password for joining and passwordAdmin for in-game admin access. Change those values in Startup because the panel writes them again when the server starts.

For a setting that Startup does not manage, stop the server and edit the file in Files. Keep its quotes and semicolons, save and start the server. If your installed startup uses a different -config path, edit that file instead.

If a player still cannot join, check their game version and mod list. See how to install DayZ Workshop mods for mod and signing-key checks.
