How to Add an Admin to Your Rust Server

Give a Rust player owner or moderator access with their SteamID64. Find the right ID, enter the command and check permissions after reconnecting.

Use Console in the Konnect game panel to give a player Rust admin access. Panel access under Users is separate from their role in the game.

Choose the role

ownerid gives owner access. moderatorid gives moderator access. Use the player’s SteamID64, not their nickname, profile URL or STEAM_0: ID.

Add the player

  1. Start the server and ask the player to join.
  2. Enter users to list connected players and their SteamID64 values.
  3. For an owner, enter ownerid STEAMID64 "PlayerName". Replace the ID and name with the player’s details.
  4. For a moderator instead, enter moderatorid STEAMID64 "PlayerName".
  5. Ask the player to disconnect and join again to apply the role.

Check the role

Check the player’s auth level in Console when they reconnect. Rust saves these changes automatically. You do not need server.writecfg.

If you edit users.cfg by hand, stop the server first. Open server/rust/cfg/users.cfg. A customised server identity uses its own folder.

For the config folder and the difference between server.cfg and users.cfg, see the Rust configuration guide. Looking for a server for your group? See Rust server hosting.
