The MOTD is the short description below your server in Minecraft’s multiplayer list. You can use it to show your server name, game mode or a welcome message. It is separate from the name saved in the Konnect panel.
Set the description
- Open Properties under Minecraft and search for MOTD, or open server.properties through Files.
- Enter the description. In the file editor, change the existing motd line, such as motd=Welcome to our survival server.
- Save and restart the server. Refresh Minecraft’s multiplayer list to check the result.
Add a second line
In server.properties, keep the setting on one file line and insert \n for a display line break: motd=Our Survival Server\nFriends welcome.
If it does not change
Check that the change was saved and the server restarted. A proxy or server list plugin may supply its own MOTD. Start with plain text and follow that software’s instructions for formatting.
